| The Alumni and Career Development Office (ACDO) contributes to career establishment and development of the Arab Open University graduates. It contributes to their professional recognition both in Lebanon and abroad.
The Alumni and Career Development office is created to provide alumni of AOU with an on-going development process in career and employment related areas. The ACDO at AOU is a welcoming environment with staff members to assist alumni with any aspect related to career development. The office seeks to nurture the relationship of alumni with AOU.
Alumni, who represent a vital component of the AOU community, are encouraged to participate in career programs that are designed to acclimate our constituents to professional activity and raise awareness of resources and mentoring opportunities.
A. Mission
• To establish and enhance networking relationship between the University and its alumni. • To support AOU alumni in their career development and guide them in a positive and realistic self-assessment • To develop strong linkages between employers and AOU graduates • To increase the employment opportunities of AOU graduates through implementation of effective job search strategies • To keep alumni up-to-date with AOU news
• To organize professional lectures, seminars, panel discussion and workshops to enrich the knowledge and professionalism of AOU alumni • To offer on-campus opportunities to meet and interview with representatives from a wide range of employers.
B. Services
• Career advice and counseling from the alumni network, a free service available to the alumni and graduating students in the Alumni and career development office. Career counselors aim to provide the preparation, job, and internship opportunities and networking connections for the alumni to meet their career goals. Counselors can support alumni with any of the following: o One-to-one career counseling o Exploration of career goals and options o An Online Career Assistance may be founded to help alumni with resume writing and for e-recruiting where alumni can apply for jobs online, post resume and build contacts with employers.
• Invitations to open-day events where alumni can meet with potential employers
C. Role of the AOU Alumni
This is how AOU Alumni can help:
• Act as 'ambassadors' of the University and assist in the recruitment of future students • Bring a real-world perspective to the academic pursuits of students and faculty • Contribute to university and entrepreneurial projects • Serve on alumni committees • Assist in professional enhancement or personal enrichment courses organised for alumni
D. AOU ACDO Staff Structure
The ACDO staff consists of two members; an officer and an executive assistant.
(1) The officer’s duties:
1. Research AOU Alumni and potential employers 2. Serves as a career counselor for the alumni to help them meet their career goals. 3. Organizes and coordinates major annual career orientation events. 4. Communicates with Alumni and employers and coordinates with the assistant regarding meeting schedules
(2) The assistant’s duties:
1. Coordinates the office schedules, calendars, Web site 2. Performs general office duties, including answering phones, taking appointments, and maintaining shared electronic files. 3. Assists with the production and distribution of annual career event invitations, alumni office mailings, meeting notices and agendas. 4. Participates in meetings and activities.
